ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Vernon College offers a one-year Certificate of Completion program in Surgical Technology. The program is limited to fifteen (15) students per class and one class per school year. The Surgical Technology Program is offered at the Century City Center Campus with classroom and clinical practicum being Monday through Friday during the day.

Vernon College also offers an Accelerated Alternative Delivery Option in Surgical Technology for Surgical Technologists that have had previous on the job training or attended a non-CAAHEP accredited program. Click here for additional information about the accelerated program.

The Surgical Technology Program's curriculum is based on the 5th Edition Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology Education from the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) nationally accredits Vernon College's Surgical Technology Program.

Graduates of Vernon College's Surgical Technology Program will be eligible to take the national certification examination offered by the National Board on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Once the ST passes the national certification examination they are permitted to use the title Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Students are required to join AST in the second semester of the program. This is the only national professional organization representing Surgical Technologists.

ST students have the opportunity to join the Surgical Technology Student Association (STSA). This student organization is composed of current ST students and is voluntary. Members perform community services and also raise funds to attend the annual AST National Conference in May.
