
Vernon College offers an extensive program in Cosmetology. A Cosmetologist should be creative, have physical stamina, and enjoy close relationships with people. Cosmetologist are also referred to as stylist, hairdressers, and beauticians. The program is designed to provide a student with the knowledge and skills required to pass the state licensing examination and to begin an exciting work experience. Cosmetology is a flexible, interesting career for a person of any age.
The Vernon College Cosmetology program offers specialize training in:The Cosmetology Instructor program consist of the following training:

- Hair color techniques
- Custom permanent waving & straightening
- Artificial nails
- Corrective make-up application
- Color coordination
- Salon development
The Nail Technician program consist of the following specialized training:
- Lab\Clinic Management
- Texas Cosmetology Commission Orientation
- Preparation of lesson plans
- Presentation of lesson plans
- Artificial nails
- Nail art
- Disease & disorders of the nails
- Manicuring
- Pedicuring

Upon satisfactory completion of the Cosmetology program at Vernon College, the student will be eligible to take the Texas State Cosmetology Commission Examination for licensure.

The Placement Center exist for the purpose of aiding all Vernon College students in the search for employment. The Placement Center also offers assistance with resume preparation, job interviewing techniques, and other job seeking skills. Numerous on-campus seminars and other workshops for single parents and other interested students are offered.
Cosmetology applicants must first be admitted to the college. After admission to the College is obtained, application may be made to the Department of Cosmetology. Acceptance into the program will be based on the following:
- All applicants will be required to take the pre-entrance examination.
- Applicants must have a personal interview with the Department Chairperson or designated faculty member.
- Students may, on occasion, be admitted provisionally on a space available basis.
- Student instructors are required to have a valid Texas Cosmetology operators license and three years certifiable experience. A cosmetology competency practical exam is required prior to entry.
