Dial-in Internet Access for
Vernon College Faculty and Staff

separator bar
Vernon College offers dial-in access to the internet for all permanent faculty and staff. Adjunct instructors may be offered dial-in access at the discretion of the VC Dean who hired them. The primary purpose of the dial-in connection is to allow faculty and staff to send and receive email from home and to do work-related research. Faculty sometimes use the connection for their distance learning classes as well.

Local telephone numbers are available in Wichita Falls and Vernon. Faculty and staff who use long distance to reach VC's dial-in service are responsible for all long-distance charges incurred.

Reasonable personal use of VC's dial-in accounts is allowed. However, since only eight people can be connected simultaneously through Vernon College's dial-in equipment, users are on the honor system to limit connection time for personal use to 2 hours. After an interval of at least 30 minutes, the user may attempt to reconnect to the Internet. Many of our faculty and staff allow family members who live with them to access the Internet through our equipment. They should monitor such use to be sure it is not excessive. Logs ARE kept showing connect and disconnect times, and activity may be checked for any user account. Downloading movies and spending hours in chat rooms should not be permitted.

Faculty and staff in the Wichita Falls area will find the VC dial-in connection slower than those provided by the local Internet Service Providers since all calls must be routed through VC's telephone equipment to avoid long distance charges.

For further information, VC faculty and staff may contact Information Technology at ext. 2300.
