Vernon College makes no guarantees about the appropriateness or completeness of the resume template. The template is meant as a starting place for resume creation. Each individual using it must tailor it to meet his/her own specific needs, and the individual assumes full responsibility for the finished resume.Vernon College offers both credit and continuing education classes covering web page creation. In addition, considerable resources are available online. Actually creating resumes to be placed on the web is the responsibility of the student. VC personnel should not be expected to offer assistance.

(note: These instructions will make more sense after you look at the template!)
- Print this document. You will need to refer to is as you work on your resume.
- If have HTML experience, add appropriate META tags to the document.
- Change all references to John Q. Doe to your own name.
- Change e-mail address to your e-mail address instead of jdoe@...
- Look at the table of information categories and decide if any should be eliminated. If so, delete them from the table and delete the corresponding section of text.
- Decide if you need any additional categories. If so, add them to the table and add sections for text.
- If you want lots of categories, you can add additional rows by using more <tr> and </tr> tags.
- If you add or delete categories from the table, try to keep an equal number of categories in all rows. If one row has fewer entries than the other rows, it should be the last row.
- Change the last revised date.
- Within the text sections, delete the instructions which show in pink on the screen. Delete everything from <font color="#FF00FF"> to </font>.
- Within the text sections, add the information of your choice. Between <pre> and </pre> you are in control of the format.
- You may delete either the link to the Vernon College Resume List or the link to the Vernon College Home Page. It is acceptable to keep both links in your document.
- Delete the last updated line. This date refers to the template and not to your resume. Your last revision date is near the top of your resume.
- Delete the line that states that the template is not copyrighted. The decision on whether to mark your resume as copyrighted is up to you.
- View your resume with a browser.
- Check all the links.
- Make sure the headings in the table agree with your section headings.
- Make sure you have deleted all of the pink instructions.
- Give the same attention to spelling, punctuation, format and content that you would give to a printed resume.
- If you are a Vernon College student approaching graduation or a recent VC graduate, VC will host your resume on its web server for a period of six months after the resume is approved by the VC Placement Director and/or the Director of Information Technology. Take your resume on diskette to the Placement Office.
- Search for other sites on the Web which will display your resume for free. Follow their instructions. You will get a lot more exposure to potential employers at these sites than you will at Vernon College.
- Announce your resume to the search engines.
- Check your email regularly. WWW users are more likely to respond with email than with phone calls or letters.
