Narrative:

Vernon College grants degrees, along with other Texas community colleges, as authorized by the State of Texas and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This authorization is provided through the Texas Education Code: Chapter 130, Section 130.0011-Public Junior Colleges; Role and Mission. This article states: Texas public junior colleges shall be two-year institutions primarily serving their local taxing districts and service areas in Texas and offering vocational, technical, and academic courses for certification or associate degrees.

Also, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools recognized the degree granting authority during initial accreditation of Vernon College in 1974 and reaffirmation of accreditation in 1989 and again in 1999.
