The institution has a chief executive officer whose primary responsibility is to the institution and who is not the presiding officer of the Board. (Chief Executive Officer)

Narrative:

 

In the Vernon College Board Policy Manual under Section BAA Legal (Board Legal Status Powers, Duties, Responsibilities): The Board of Trustees shall: Appoint the College President, evaluate the College President, and assist the College President in the achievement of performance goals. Education Code 51.352(d)

 

The Vernon College Board of Trustees employed Dr. Stephen Thomas to begin serving as President in August of 2000. Dr Thomas reports to the local Board of Trustees and serves as the fifth president since the College was established in 1972.

 

The Presidentís job description is displayed in the Vernon College Board Policy Manual under Section BFA Local (College President Qualification and Duties). As shown in the job description, the President's primary responsibility is to the institution, and he is not the presiding officer of the Board; rather, Mr. Bob Ferguson, Chairman of the Board, is the presiding officer.

 

Dr. Thomas reports to the Vernon College Board of Trustees for the implementation of Board policies.
