The institution evaluates the effectiveness of its administrators, including the chief executive officer, on a periodic basis. (Administrative Staff Evaluations)

 

 

COMPLIANCE

 

Narrative:

 

Evaluations of the chief executive officer and College administrators are conducted annually. The Vernon College Board of Trustees is responsible for the evaluation of the president as outlined in the Vernon College Board Policy Manual, Section BFB Local (College President Evaluation), The College Presidentís performance and contract shall be reviewed in February of each year and at such other times as the Board may deem advisable. The extension of the College Presidentís contract shall be considered in February of each year and at such other times as the Board may deem advisable. The effective date of the contract extensions for the President shall be September 1 through August 31 unless another date is specified by the Board at the time of the extension. Evidence that such an evaluation occurs is contained in the minutes of the Board of Trustees' Meeting. The most recent evaluation was held at the Board meeting in February 2007 in a closed session and resulted in the continued employment of the president.

 

The Vernon College Board Policy Manual, Section DLA Local (Status of Employment Evaluation) states, in part, The College will conduct performance evaluations of all full-time employees for the following purposes: 1.To provide information to individual employees concerning job performance and thus contribute to their professional growth and development. 2. To provide information for use in recommendations concerning other institutional personnel actions. The College President shall ensure that guidelines for performance evaluations are developed and implemented.

 

The Employee Handbook outlines the process for evaluation of employees of the College, and states, Employee evaluations are required annually for every employee of Vernon College in the month of February. Individual supervisors may choose to do a counseling session at anytime throughout the year to discuss any given employment/performance problem. Such counseling sessions will be documented with a follow up reevaluation date stated (documentation will be written and filed in the personnel file). The purpose of the employee evaluation is to constructively appraise employee job performance, encourage professional growth, provide a professional and objective basis for recommending continuing employment for each employee, and provide a means by which the employee is informed of how their work is perceived by the supervisor.
