- Read the Letter to Prospective LVN Students.
- Complete the Vernon College admission procedure. A student must be first
accepted by the College before being accepted by the Nursing
Department.
Additional information
is available online.
- Submit an application for admission to the Vocational Nursing
Program. Include three letters of personal references with the
application form. These letters must be from three adults, not
relatives, who can give information about the applicant's emotional
stability, moral character, and good citizenship.
- Show evidence that a physical examination has been performed by a
licensed medical doctor. The physical exam must be within the last
six-month period. The physical is required only if a student has
been accepted into the program and must be recorded on a Vernon College
physical form.
- Provide evidence that the following immunization requirements have
been met prior to enrollment in the nursing program:
tetanus/diphtheria toxoid (TD), measles (students born after
January 1, 1957), rubella, and mumps (students born after January 1,
1957). For immunization exclusions and waivers and acceptable
documentation of immunizations, students should contact the director
of the program.
- Take the pre-entrance examination. Results of this examination will
be used as one criterion in the admission of applicants to the
nursing program.
- The Nursing Admission and Review Committee will review each
applicant's record and make a determination as to acceptance into
the Vernon College Department of Vocational Nursing based upon pre-entrance
test results, written communication, additional education, and
completion of the application process.
- In the event the application is rejected by the Nursing Admission
and Review Committee, the applicant may request a hearing before the
College Admissions Committee. Such request is to be submitted in
writing and include the reasons why the College Admissions Committee
should review the petition.
- After admission verification of a clear criminal history record is required for
completion of clinical rotations in local health care facilities. Additionally, if
you have lived outside the state of Texas during the last 24 months, you will also be
required to have an FBI fingerprint check completed. Certain criminal offenses make
the student ineligible to participate in the clinical rotations at the health care
facilities. A background check will be done to fulfill the obligations to the clinical
areas. If a criminal history exists, the student may be ineligible to perform in the
clinical facilities. Inability to complete the clinical rotation will result in failure
to complete the vocational nursing program at Vernon College. You may contact the
Director to receive a list of offenses that make a student ineligible to perform
clinicals.
