Face Mask Required

Vernon College is providing leadership to encourage personal and social responsibility as well as supporting the state of Texas initiatives to decrease the spread of COVID-19 by requiring face coverings to be worn on campus locations by employees, students, prospective students, and campus visitors beginning Monday, July 6, 2020.  


Face-Covering Protocol

  • Face coverings are to be worn by students, prospective students, and visitors while on campus for any reason and any location
  • Students may remove face coverings while eating in the dining hall, VC Café, or student lounge if social distancing of 6 ft. or more is possible
  • Various career and technical program skill development training classes may require face coverings to be removed for certain activities  ex. welding
  • Face coverings are not required in parking areas or outside the buildings
  • Face coverings are to be worn by employees
    • In hallways
    • When engaging students or others even from behind plexi-glass shields
    • In congregate areas
  • Employees may remove face coverings when at their desks if in an office setting that allows for social distancing of 6 ft. or more
  • Face coverings are not required of faculty while lecturing in the classroom or lab
  • Face coverings are not required of switchboard receptionists seated behind barrier shields
  • Students with documented health issues that are negatively impacted by wearing face coverings must contact Student Services
  • Employees with documented health issues that are negatively impacted by wearing face coverings must contact Human Resources
  • Employees and students are expected provide their own face coverings.

Protocol for Exposure to COVID-19 reminder

Per CDC guidelines, those who discover that they have been exposed to people with known or suspected COVID-19 should:

  • Employees should contact their direct supervisor who should contact the component Vice-President
  • Students should contact their instructor(s) and the Vice-President of Student Services by email
  • Stay home until 14 days after last exposure and maintain social distance (at least 6 feet) from others at all times
  • Self-monitor for symptoms
  • Check temperature twice a day
  • Watch for fever, cough, or shortness of breath or other symptoms of COVID-19
  • Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19
  • Follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop
