24-hour SFST Practitioner Course - This training course uses the nationally standardized SFST curriculum
and prepares Texas Peace Officers to administer and interpret the results of
the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing battery. This course is offered to
bridge the gap in officers who attended the Basic Peace Officer Course in Texas
prior to January 1, 2005, when this course was mandated to be included in all
Texas BPOCs.
The DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
(SFST) training curriculum prepares police officers and other qualified persons
to conduct the SFSTs for use in driving while impaired (DWI) investigations.
This training, developed under the auspices and direction of the NHTSA and the
IACP, has experienced remarkable success since its inception in the early
1980s.
Standards for Course Completion In order to successfully
complete this training, participants must pass the written examination and
demonstrate proficiency in administering and interpreting the SFSTs. The
Written Examination A written knowledge examination focuses on the
administrative and interpretation procedures for the SFSTs. Participants must
achieve a minimum grade of 80% to successfully complete this training
