BIG FAFSA CHANGES FOR 2018-19 – The 2018-19 FAFSA is available NOW!! Students have been able to file a 2018-19 FAFSA since Oct. 1, 2017. The earlier submission date is a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit a FAFSA as early as Oct. 1 every year.  On the 2018–19 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) must report their 2016 income information, rather than their 2017 income information.

DON’T BE A SAP!!!!  Federal regulations require that students who receive financial aid make satisfactory academic progress (SAP).    At VC that means a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, must have a successful pace of completion rate that is at least 67% of all courses attempted, and must not exceed the maximum time-frame limit.  This includes all periods of enrollment, even semesters in which the student did not receive financial aid.  If you fail to meet these standards, you will lose your eligibility for financial aid.  VC monitors SAP at the end of each semester and notifies students of their status via Campus Connect.

HELP US HELP YOU!!!  The Campus Connect feature that is available from the VC website, allows students to check their financial aid status, see how much financial aid they have been awarded and/or used, check their SAP status, view their grades, register for classes, check their account status, and print an unofficial transcript and/or class schedule.  All you need is your user name and password that was assigned by the Admissions Office.  Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

R2T4…..WHAT IS THAT??  If a student withdraws prior to completing 60% of the semester, a Return to Title IV calculation must be completed that determines how much aid the student actually earned.  This could result in the student owing money to VC, the federal government or both!  Contact the financial aid office prior to dropping classes or withdrawing.  STAY IN SCHOOL!!!

HAVE YOU BEEN TO COUNSELING…….exit counseling that is!  If you received a student loan you must complete this requirement before you graduate, drop below half-time enrollment, transfer to another school, or withdraw from VC.  Failure to do so will result in a hold against your record.  Exit counseling, as well as information and guidance to help you understand how to manage your student loan debt and repay your loans, is available 24 hours per day at http://studentloans.gov. Other valuable information about your loans is available at http://www.nslds.ed.gov
