COMMUNITY USE

Community Patrons

A library card is available to area residents seventeen (17) years and older. A ten ($10) dollar security deposit is required upon application for a library card. Upon receiving a library card, the patron agrees to follow the same policies and procedures that apply to Vernon College students. A library handbook is available upon request in any Vernon College library or resource room.

Student patrons will have first priority of use of the library facilities and resources.

The library card expires in three (3) years. The cardholder must initiate renewal within ninety (90) days of expiration. Library privileges are revoked and the deposit forfeited if not renewed.

The member may request the deposit to be refunded at any time from the library staff. The refund will be processed through the Vernon College Business Office and mailed in two to three weeks.

Present your library card each time you wish to borrow a book.

Borrowing is limited to three books.

Books are borrowed for two weeks.

Books may be renewed two times provided the book has not been requested by another patron. Books may be renewed online from any Internet connection. Select the link labeled "Renew Books Online" from the library homepage.

Reference books and periodicals are to be used in the library only.

The cardholder is responsible for all items borrowed on his/her card.

Please notify library staff immediately if your card is lost or stolen.

Any change of address or telephone number should be updated as soon as possible.

Borrowing privileges can be denied and the deposit forfeited if the borrower has fines and/or overdue, damaged, or lost books. Library privileges may be denied for violation of Vernon College's Telecommunications Policy.

Complimentary Patrons

Complimentary library cards are issued to instructional staff of local and surrounding school districts. Card holders are entitled to full borrowing privileges and on-site access to library's electronic resources.

Library fines and policies apply equally to all patrons. VC has approved a campus-wide policy for the use of computers and the Internet. The library recognizes and supports all the guidelines specified in the "Responsible Use of Vernon College's Telecommunications Resources".

Youth Access Policy

Parents should not leave children unattended in the library. For the safety of your children and as a courtesy to others in the library, please supervise your children's activities.

Internet Usage by Children:

Library computers are not equipped with Internet filters to help monitor and restrict web content. Consequently, children 14 years of age or younger must be accompanied, supervised, and monitored by a parent or legal guardian while using the electronic resources of the Vernon College Library System.
